Capturing runoff at HMAS Albatross

Location: HMAS Albatross – South Nowra, NSW
Products: 4 x Offline Stormceptors

4 x Offline Stormceptors

The Challenge

Department of Defence requires runoff water to be treated before discharging to the environment.

The solution will also need to comply with one of the most stringent water quality requirements in Australia, the Airport Aviation Act.

The Solution

We designed and supplied 4 x SPEL Stormceptors offline treatment systems to treat the runoff water before it is discharged to the environment.

The catchment size is nearly 12 hectares or, in a simpler term, around 12 football fields.

SPEL Stormceptor Class 1* is a horizontally configured two-chamber stormwater quality improvement device (SQID) equipped with a gravity enhancing coalescer unit.

The design, facilitated by a retention period of approximately 6 minutes generates quiescent conditions within the secondary chamber, efficiently promoting the separation of total suspended solids (TSS), light liquids and pollutants.
