Green Building Council Australia
Launched by Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) in 2003, the Green Star rating system promotes better sustainability outcomes in the design and construction of our built environment. The rating system is an extension of GBCA’s purpose to lead the sustainable transformation of buildings, cities, and communities—creating healthy, resilient, and positive places.
Green Star is Australia’s largest voluntary sustainability rating system for buildings, fitouts, and community-wide developments. It takes a truly holistic approach in assessing sustainability based on its goals to reduce climate change impacts, enhance health and quality of life, restore and protect ecosystems, drive resilience in the built environments, and contribute to market transformation and a sustainable economy.
The webinar will shed light on how Green Star works, and how stormwater and stormwater management play into the rating system. This is an excellent opportunity for stormwater practitioners to learn more about the sustainable property industry and how they can align with it.
Jeff Oatman, Senior Manager-Membership – Joining GBCA in 2010, Jeff worked across the organisation, managing Green Star certification and Professional Development. Now, Jeff oversees the membership and engagement function of GBCA, which currently has a 550+ member base. Originally from Canada, Jeff came to Sydney via South Korea, where he previously worked in commercial leasing transaction management for a global real estate consulting firm.
Nick Baker, Senior Technical Coordinator – Nick works with the Green Star Team, ensuring that GBCA members, users, and project teams have a smooth experience in delivering Green Star projects. Apart from facilitating Green Star certifications and providing technical guidance to projects, Nick also reviews and implements initiatives that improve systems, technical support documents and rating tools. He also develops and updates processes under ISO9001 to capture knowledge and identify efficiencies for quality.
